Mrs. David Beckham has worn her angular, asymmetrical bob for almost two years. She showed off her new darker pixie cut at the Marc Jacobs runway show this week.
Victoria Beckham is known for fashion-forward style and cultivating her image. She’s a trend-setter with her hair and clothing line. Her new traditional pixie is bound to be just as popular as her bob, and legions of fans will soon follow suit. Or will they? Why, Victoria? Why?Beckham informed The Daily Telegraph: "You know, I just like to change things up. I get bored very, very quickly and I just fancied a change." Even though Beckham unveiled her new ‘do only yesterday, already there are website comments and blogs that are none too favourable when it comes to the public’s reaction of the haircut. Is she trying to out-haircut Katie Holmes, who has received tonnes of positive press for her shorter and shorter haircuts? Is this super short boy-cut the corrective action of another haircut gone bad? A Female First reader commented, “It looks bloody awful, fashion icon or not.” Similarly, theblemish.com criticizes, “It’s not very becoming. She’s so confusingly skinny that it’s hard to tell whether or not she just escaped from a concentration camp. This haircut won’t help either. Even homeless people are asking her if she’s alright and offering her a piece of bread.” This is Not a New HairstyleThe style itself is not new, though there are probably hundreds of thousands of young Spice Girls fans who think Posh is the first to wear it. Celebrities have braved the shears for years and have had a true pixie cut complete with ultra short bangs and cut over the ears.
Short hair was hard to find during the Let It Be ‘70s or The Age of the Supermodel 1990s. Winona Ryder wasn’t exactly a fashion icon during the ‘90s and her short crop was more an anomaly than a new trend. Posh can pretty much only go longer from here, but don’t expect her to use hair extensions to undo this don't. In 2006, she revealed in an interview with British breakfast television show GMTV the reason she went from long to her then new bob: it was because her hair extensions kept falling out during sex with her footballer hero husband David Beckham. “I was in the heat of passion and my hair extensions would come out. It was so embarrassing.” Maybe Posh should look to Paris Hilton’s “The Bandit” hair extension and hair band combo for a fuller look. World reknowned New York hairstylist Garren is responsible for Posh's cut.
