Rich Coppery Red and Orange Hair Colour for FallGet The Latest Hair Colour for This Season
Fall represents change in colour, and hair is no exception to the rule. Copper is one of the season's hottest and coolest shades this year.
Metallics have been shimmering on the 2008 fashion runways all year. Clothing, shoes, accessories, nail lacquers, make-up—and now hair. The latest: John Paul Mitchell Systems Copper Series“The new Copper Series are beautifully blended shades that create the most natural looking warm and cool coppery red tones and fiery colors,” describes Scott Cole, Artistic Director for Paul Mitchell Professional Hair Color. Singer Ashley Simpson’s most recent rich red hue seen at the MTV Video Music Awards Show represents Paul Mitchell’s permanent cool shades. As a celebrity who often changes her hair colour, Simpson will set trends with this shade, demonstrating that brunettes can enhance the reddish or bronze character of their natural hair colour. For extra pop Paul Mitchell stylists use InkWorks’ neon orange, hot pink and yellow blended seamlessly into fall’s palette. InkWorks is a semi-permanent colour. Trendy Cut & Colour: TIGITIGI describes colour as being as necessary to an overall look as the haircut itself. “Colour is an accessory to fashion. It enhances the total concept. Every look uses colour to complete the cut, strengthen the shape, enhance the texture or add a different dimension.” Funky reds and oranges placed in zig-zag patterns make up the “Street” look from TIGI, emphasizing eclectic colour. Mimicking fall foliage, the Street look most closely resembles an ensemble of turning leaves synonymous with the season. This style demonstrates the lighter versions of coppers and oranges with less emphasis on red, and more on orange. Who Can Wear Copper Colours?Depending on skin tone, this hair colour is not for everyone. Talk to a stylist before jumping into copper feet first. Subtle highlights or lowlights might be the only touch of metallic needed to be trendy, yet complimentary. Use words like ‘coppery,’ ‘patina,’ ‘like a shiny penny,’ ‘burnished,’ and ‘metallic’ to communicate desires. Showing the stylist photographs of dream hair and nightmare hair also helps. Tracey Cunningham, Redken Creative Consultant for Color predicts, “This fall haircolor will be earthier, deeper, richer and full of shine.” If permanent hair colour in a trendy shade is too daunting, ask for a demi or semi-permanent colour to try first. Like permanent hair colour, semis and demis can be custom blended. Drug store brands of copper colours are readily available but be careful with home-jobs. Natural hair colour, amount of grey coverage, any colour that’s already on the hair, and desired amount of lift all need to be considered before applying these shades of red, bronze and orange. Colour balancing may be needed prior to adding copper tones or else the end result could be brassy or tinny.
